The program has been an incredible opportunity to understand the Costa Rican Healthcare system. The initial presentation from Dr. Frank Rodriguez was great for orientating to the multiple layers of the public health care system. Throughout the program, I was able to rotate through many of these layers, including a private hospital, a public hospital, and a public community clinic. For the most part, I worked with one attending physician per week, which was always an amiable, professional relationship. The attendings consistently went out of their way to explain their diagnostic and therapeutic process. The twice-weekly Spanish class was very helpful in refining my conversational level of Spanish. Throughout, Luis, our driver, orienteer, lunch buddy, and all-around companion, was incredibly helpful, funny, and kind. I recommend this program.
